On January 18th, 2010, in Houston TX, Myra Chanel Ical was found in a field, beaten to death. No suspect was found and details of her death were not released by police. No motive was determined.
According to local news, “Detectives say he was found in an area known to have incidents of prostitution, drug use and homeless camps. However, they do not have a motive in the murder or any known witnesses in the case.”
“Homicide detectives have no leads or a motive. They can’t say whether being transgender made Ical a target.”
“We’re hoping that this particular community, the transgender community, reaches out to us and provides us with more information that helps us figure this out,” said Sgt. Bobby Roberts. Police say they don’t want to reveal Ical’s cause of death but report that her body showed signs of a struggle.”
“I talked to her on the phone. She was having fun with some friends, so I was surprised she ended up here (near Montrose),” said Dilian Quijano, the victim’s friend.
“The only thing that makes me believe that her (Ical’s) lifestyle could have contributed to this crime is the fact it was a brutal beating,” said Lou Weaver, a member of the transgender community.”
“Ical was last seen wearing a black blouse, blue jeans and a black sweater, according to the statement.”
Location: 4300 block of Garrott near the Southwest Freeway and Richmond, Houston, TX, at about 2:00 p.m.
Personal Information:
Myra was from Guatemala and had recently moved to Houston, TX.
“She was just a trans woman trying to make it, trying to survive, trying to get a job, keep a job and unfortunately she ran into the wrong people,” said Phyllis Frye, a transgender attorney.
