On October 13th, 2023, in Chicago, IL, Lisa was shot while walking on the street by an unknown assailant in a car.

Report: “According to police, around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, the 35-year-old was shot in the chest and back near 79th St. and Cottage Grove Ave.

“A car just drove up, made a U-turn and (saw) my cousin,” Donna said. “Approximately 30 seconds later, the car stopped and my cousin was shot.”

Family believes Lisa was targeted for being transgender, but police are not investigating the murder as a hate crime.

Report: “He suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and back and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.”

Lisa, who also went by the name Jamol Turman (legal name), was described by family as identifying as transgender, although it is not reported if Lisa was dressed as a man or a woman the day he was shot. Jamol had a long arrest history, mostly theft and nuisance crimes, dating from 2014 to 2023. Throughout he appears both in male and female attire, sometimes with facial hair.

The police have not released any further information on this case.

Family: “An all-around good person who did not deserve this,” said Donna, a cousin of Turman, during a phone interview with WGN News. “A loving, caring, free-spirited person. Always smiling and laughing.”
